Reform of the EEG in Germany Freight

With 01.08.2014 the reformed EEG (renewable energy Act), which has a serious impact on the price of electricity for railways, entered into force.

The EEG tax will be lifted by 84.5%, which corresponds to an average increase of electricity prices by 11% and is valid for the complete volume of purchased electricity in whole Germany.

For long-haul trains, the ratio of energy costs is arround 30% of the total cost, so only the increase of the EEG tax will lead to higher prices by about 3% (for the portion in Germany).

We have summarized the changes, which apply to us from 01.01.2015, in this document.
